Enhanced Security and Multi-Instance Session Support

Kia ora Silverstripe Cloud customers,

We are proactively upgrading the service that manages user sessions within your Silverstripe Cloud environments. This change upgrades our default session architecture to improved standards for security and stability.

What is Happening?

On February 09, 2026, we will release a new Manifest version of the Platform. This Manifest version changes the default PHP session storage from DynamoDB to an independent network-attached storage solution as part of our efforts to decommission DynamoDB services.

How the transition works:

  • Deployment-Triggered: The change to the new session store will take effect when a deployment using the new manifest version has completed.
  • Automated & Manual Updates: Our Autoupgrade service will automatically queue these updates for your non-production environments. You can also manually push these changes to your test environments through your normal deployment controls.
  • DynamoDB Availability: Existing environments will continue to function on DynamoDB until the new deployment is successful. However, please note that DynamoDB will no longer be available as an option for session storage once this transition is complete.

Timeline & Impact

  • Release Date: February 9, 2026 (New Manifest available).
  • Autoupgrader: As a precaution, non-production environments will be queued for updates first, allowing you to verify your application continues to work as expected before changes are applied to Production.
  • No Manual Configuration Required: Aside from standard deployment procedures, no configuration actions are required from your end
  • We anticipate zero disruption to your application’s operations during this transition.
